Below is a list of the 2017-2018 Wilson PTO committee descriptions and Co-Chairs.
If you have any questions about a committee or wish to volunteer, please contact those Co-Chairs who have been identified and are listed at the end of each committee description.
For the committees who do not yet have Co-Chairs, please contact one of the PTO Co-Presidents to volunteer or to offer to co-chair. We appreciate you taking the time to volunteer, especially considering how hectic everyone's schedules can be.

Art Appreciation Co-Chairs
October through March. Coordinate volunteers and provide them with instructional materials to teach their child's class about famous artists and one work of art. Notify teachers of volunteers and keep lesson plans organized. Volunteers will be solicited from the classes in the Fall.

February through May. Create and distribute flyer for the sale of ArtWare. Collect orders and coordinate order placement and distribution with vendor.

Year round. Coordinate this program that offers books for parents to purchase and donate to the Wilson library to commemorate a child's birthday or other special occasions. Order books, list titles on school website, prepare bookplates.

April. Co-chairs work with Principal and Scholastic Books to plan and execute annual book fair. Volunteers assist with book fair set-up, help children with book selections and collect payment.

Box Tops for Education / Campbell Soup Labels
Two or three times per year. Publicize drive to collect Box Tops seals, meet to count and package seals, then mail to General Mills to earn cash payment to the school.

Year round, as needed. The PTO occasionally needs volunteers to help with an event for a few hours. Sign up to be one of the people we can call to see if you're available to help.

Year round. Co-Chairs order Tinga meals bi-weekly from vendor and coordinate volunteers. Volunteers serve lunch to students on occasional Mondays throughout the school year according to a schedule set in September.

Faculty First Day Luncheon
September 2017. Coordinate a buffet lunch for our faculty and staff. Order food and beverages, set tables and assist with buffet. The luncheon is held before students report for the school year.

Faculty Holiday Breakfast and Gifts
December 2017. Plan menu and decor. Order and serve a buffet breakfast for the faculty and staff.

Family Game Night
January & March 2018. Plan and carry out two evenings of fun and games for Wilson families on two winter Friday nights.

Family Movie Night
October 2017. Plan and implement a family movie night outdoors at Wilson. Takes place on a Friday night in October.
May 2018. Help Physical Education teacher plan and coordinate a day of relay races, tug-of-war, and other physical competitions for each grade. Volunteers also needed to work shifts at the various competitions on Field Day.

Fine Arts Students of the Month
Year round, monthly. Gather names of students selected by teachers, communicate list to VP Communications for inclusion in Weekly, take photo of each child, then display photos on foyer bulletin board.

First Day of School Parent Coffee
Coordinate and set up coffee and breakfast pastries/bagels for parents during the first morning of the school year.

Holiday Craft Workshop - Bake Sale
Early December. Host bake sale at Holiday Craft Workshop.

Holiday Craft Workshop - Crafts
September through Early December. Co-chairs design crafts, order and prepare materials, plan, and execute event that allows students to make craft gifts. Event takes place on a Saturday in early December. Volunteers needed to prepare craft materials in advance and to work shifts at the event.

Holiday Gift Giving: Senior Citizen Support
Publicize and oversee a grocery store gift card drive during the month of December for Westfield senior citizens in need. Coordinate the donation of collected gift cards to the Westfield Senior Citizen Housing Corporation.

Holiday Gift Giving: Toy Drive
November and December. Work with Boy Scout Troop 171 to hold a gently used Toy Drive for the Second Chance Toys organization.

Year round. Assist the librarian by re-shelving and checking books in and out during class visits. Volunteering schedule may not be when your child is in the library. Co-Chairs organize volunteer schedules.
Year round. Coordinate with Mr. Malanga on seasonal decorations in the school lobby. Decorations are stored in the PTO attic.

October through March. Plan and execute the biggest fundraiser of the year. Responsibilities include soliciting auction items, selecting or designing invitations, collecting RSVPs, booking a location, and arranging for decorations and entertainment.

Year round. Co-Chairs order pasta meals bi-weekly from vendor and coordinate volunteers. Volunteers serve pasta to students on occasional Mondays throughout the school year according to a schedule set in September.

PTO Spring Luncheon
Held in June 2018. Prepare invitations, order and serve luncheon for faculty, staff, and PTO members. Coordinate small gift for outgoing 5th grade parents.

Year round. Promote Wilson School events and programs. Photograph events throughout the school year. Work with administration, staff, PTO, and Westfield school district communications coordinator to submit photos and write releases for the local press. Photograph Wilson Staff for website and update pictures on lobby photo frame.

October 2017. Volunteers count laps run or walked by students during their gym class runathon and serve light refreshments at end of session.

School Supply Kit
May, June, week before school starts. Work with vendor and teachers to determine school supply kits per grade. Create order forms, take orders, and distribute kits first day of school.
Chair - Nicole Carnucci
February through early-June 2018. Plan and execute Wilson's second-largest fundraiser of games, craft, and food booths for Wilson families. Volunteers needed for planning and for day-of-event shifts.

Mothers' Day Plant Sale
April and May 2018. Organize and staff plant sale for students at Wilson the second week in May.

Student and Class Pictures
October 2017 and April 2018. Assist professional photographers as they take photos of students in the fall and of each class in the spring. Collect payments if needed.

June, August, early September. Maintain and input as needed, student and parent contact data in a Microsoft Excel spreadsheet and use Microsoft Publisher to create the school directory. Knowledge of Excel and Publisher preferred, but not required.

June 2018. Plan and assist with this event where students are treated to ice cream sundaes on Move-Up Day in June.

Teacher Appreciation Breakfast
April and May 2018. Prepare, order, and serve a breakfast for faculty and staff on Teacher Appreciation Day during first week in May.

Year Round. Chair publicizes extra lunch program in Wilson Weekly and coordinates volunteers for weekly lunch delivery to Elizabeth center. Driver volunteers help deliver food on occasional Thursdays throughout the year.

Welcome Wine & Cheese for New Wilson Parents
Early September. Host a New Parent wine and cheese reception on a Sunday afternoon in September.

Wilson World Newspaper
Year round. Help 3rd-5th grade students produce their own twice-yearly newspaper. Develop story assignments, edit children's articles, puzzles, and art, and work with printer vendor on page layout. Meet with students during lunch/recess hour. Great opportunity to work with students.

Year round. Organize Bagel Days on alternate Fridays. Proceeds help fund 5th grade activities. Orders for the year are taken in September. Fifth grade student volunteers distribute the bagels at lunchtime.
5th Grade Award Ceremony
June 2018. Provide banner for the end of year award ceremony. Purchase small gifts for teachers.
5th Grade Bagel Breakfasts
May and June 2018. Organize bagel breakfasts for 5th graders on the final day of PARCC testing and on the morning of yearbook distribution and signing.
5th Grade Event Photographer
Year round. Photograph and video significant 5th grade events (e.g., first day of school band concert, Halloween, Valentine's Day, Colonial Day, Sandy Hook trip, etc.) for use in the video and yearbook. Provide photos on CD to yearbook and video committees.
5th Grade Holiday Caroling Hot Chocolate
December 2018. Provide hot chocolate and breakfast treats for the 5th graders before school after they carol on the blacktop on one of the last days before the year-end break.
5th Grade Party
March through June 2018. Plan and run a celebration for 5th graders at the end of their final year at Wilson.
Year round. Co-chairs inventory and order merchandise for School Store and for after school snack sales; count money weekly; arrange deposits with the PTO Treasurer; assist with after-school snack sales. Volunteer schedules parent volunteers and supervises student salespersons at School Store. Assist with after-school snack sales. Chair - Rachel Latessa
Year round. Purchase and sell Wilson-logo clothing and other items such as car magnets or water bottles.

March through May 2018. Plan and implement school spirit event, including invitations/flyers for ticket sales, RSVPs, and seat assignments.

5th Grade T-Shirt
January through April 2018. Select student design and order t-shirts for 5th graders.
5th Grade Talent Show
May and June 2018. Assist Wilson Music Teacher in the fifth grade talent show. Download all talent show performers' music to an ipod and assist with rehearsals and with the morning and afternoon performances. Help coordinate departing 5th grade parent musical number.
5th Grade Video
Year Round. Review and select photos to be used in the video. Survey 5th graders on most popular songs. Video some 5th grade events and submit footage. Produce master video and create DVD's for every 5th grader. Distribute and collect video order forms and payments.
5th Grade Yearbook-Communications
Year Round. Act as the liaison between the yearbook committee and the 5th grade parents. Keep the yearbook committee on schedule, coordinate meetings, and communicate important dates to the parents. A highly organized, well written person would be ideal.
5th Grade Yearbook- Layout
Year Round. Design the yearbook pages, assemble the yearbook using publishing software, and work with a publishing company to have it printed. A creative person with knowledge of graphics software, photo editing software, and general computer skills are important.
5th Grade Yearbook-Photo Organizer
Year Round. Sort through photos collected from all 5th grade families, do minor photo editing, and organize the photos so they can be used in the yearbook. Knowledge of photo editing software is important.
Alcohol and Drug Awareness
Year Round. Alcohol and Drug Awareness representative works with other school representatives to coordinate activities for Drug Awareness and National Red Ribbon Week in October. Also assists with 'Stir It Up,' a presentation and panel discussion about substance abuse.
Representative - Kristen Winters
Year Round. Serve as Wilson's representative to the town BRAKES committee which works to ensure safe walking and biking conditions to and from schools. Help organize the annual walk to school day in October and help with planning the crossing guard breakfast to thank and recognize all of our guards in the spring.

March. Pick up student artwork from Wilson school and display it in downtown stores and businesses, as part of 'Youth Art Month.' The Representative reports directly to Dr. King.
Representative - Natalie Wilcomes
Gifted and Talented Education
Year Round. Assist in promoting and supporting the intellectual curiosity of all students in the Westfield School District. Assist in providing support to the students and families that are admitted to and participate in the Gifted Education Program.
Representatives - Amisha Mehta and Dore Duhaime
Year Round. Renewed in 2016, this committee pays attention to what is happening in Trenton and local politics which may affect education and our schools, particularly the low rate of funding. Anyone interested in advocating for Westfield schools on a larger scale is welcome as the primary purpose is providing the community with awareness and education regarding upcoming legislation and policies.
Representative - OPEN
Parent Teacher Council
Year Round. Attend monthly meetings of the Parent-Teacher Council with the District Superintendent and Board of Education members, on the third Thursday of each month (except December). Issues of interest to all Westfield parents are discussed at the meetings. Representatives then report back any highlights or important information to the Wilson School PTO. Positions held by PTO Presidents.
Representatives - Christine Dwan and Melissa Abo
Year Round. SNAC (School Nutritional Awareness Council) rep supports SNAC's mission 'to foster a positive nutritional environment in the Westfield Public Schools, empowering students and families to make healthy food choices.' Manage the implementation of the Nutrition Education program through coordinating volunteers to present lessons twice yearly in all grades. Work with the Education Co-Chairs to implement other SNAC related programs. Submit nutrition-related information to Wilson Weekly.
Representatives - Jamie Sherry and Dryden Watner
Year Round. Town-wide committee raises awareness and promote advocacy for children requiring special education, by providing both parent education and support. Representative will act as a liaison between the committee chairs and Wilson School. Assist chairs with coordinating and promoting five evening events which include guest speakers on a variety of special education topics, and the annual Special Education Awareness Expo.
