Strengthening Skills

The Extended School Year Program in the Westfield Public School District focuses on maintaining and strengthening academic skills through the summer to prepare students for the new school year. In its 17th year, the five-week, state-mandated ESY program assists students in preschool through high school who have been identified as those who would benefit from additional instruction and related services during the summer.

New RIS Principal

At its public meeting on July 18, the Westfield Board of Education unanimously approved the appointment of Brian Gechtman as principal of Roosevelt Intermediate School, effective August 1, 2019. Gechtman currently serves as assistant principal at Roosevelt. He will succeed Mary Asfendis, who begins her new position as principal of Westfield High School on August 1.
